What would you do if your fiance insists on a blood vow before marriage?
I met Martins two years ago at a wedding of my close friend, Nora. Though I had a relationship at the time we met, Martins showed right from the word go that he wanted to marry me.
My then boyfriend, Jason, was not even ready to settle down, neither was he serious at all. After a while, I decided to give Martins a chance and cut off all links with Jason. Since he was not even serious, he was not bothered and wished me well.
My relationship with Martins waxed strong and within six months, he had proposed to me which I gladly accepted. He took me to his family and they all fell in love with me. I also took him home and my family accepted him wholeheartedly.
We had our introduction soon after and a date was set for both the traditional marriage and the white wedding which was to be on the same day.
But Martins came up with the most silliest suggestion, that we must take a blood vow before we could get married. According to him, he did not want me to ever leave him or have anything with another man, even if he dies.
I told him point blank that I would never be a part of that arrangement and he laid down a marker that if I refused to take the vow with him, he would call off the wedding. I told my parents about it and they also insisted I should not take the vow while my pastor has urged me to call off the relationship.
But I love Martins and at the moment, I am undecided on what to do.
Should I call his bluff and cut off all links with him or go ahead with his suggestion?
