Soldier shoots student for refusing his advances in Plateau

A soldier sent to provide security for the people of Plateau State almost snuffed the life out of a teenager who refused his sexual advances.

The young victim who is now battling for her life at the Plateau Specialist Hospital, according to a youth activist, Friday Bako, was shot by the unnamed soldier at a checkpoint during a protest over the death of two young boys last month in Riyom Local Government Area of the state.

Bako who wrote about the sad incident on his Facebook wall narrated that the soldier had been disturbing the girl for a relationship but when she constantly refused, he vowed to deal with her.

During the peaceful protest where she was a part of, the soldier singled her out and shot at her after boasting that he would kill her and nothing would happen to him.

Bako also posted the photographs of the girl in her hospital bed when the Federal Lawmaker representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency, Barr. I. D. Gyang, paid her a visit.

Barr. Gyang was said to have called for a full investigation into abuses on Human Rights of his constituents, particularly the recent alleged killings and attacks on innocent and harmless civilians.

This is the post Bako made on his wall:

"Rep ID Gyang was at the Plateau Specialist Hospital at 8:00 am on Saturday, November 4, to visit and sympathize with victims of gunshot including Simi Danladi, a 17-year-old SS1 student of GSS Sopp, in Riyom LGA.

She was shot in the thigh at close range by one of the soldiers manning the checkpoint at Sopp because she allegedly refused his lustful advances.

On the 19th of October this year, during a protest by the community against the soldiers for causing the deaths of two boys, this particular soldier singled out Simi and shot her.

He wanted to finish her off with another shot but was stopped by a fellow soldier who was more sympathetic.

He proceeded to kick her several times in the face and body. Simi and two others, and his son who were shot in the leg and jaw respectively, are currently receiving medical attention at the Plateau Specialist Hospital, Jos. Please pray for their recovery."

This is not the first time soldiers sent to the state and other parts of the country to provide protection for the citizens have turned around to be their tormentors with little or nothing done to them to serve as a deterrent to others.
