40-yr-old man faces N1.1m cement fraud charge

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Fagboyinbo Abiodun, the accused committed the offences sometime in 2014 at Okefia area of Osogbo.
Abiodun said the accused allegedly defrauded the complainant, Mr Salami Hammed, of N1.1 million when he collected 500 bags of cement and failed to pay for the goods.
The accused had promised to pay for the cement on several occasions but failed to do so, he told the court.
The offences contravened Sections 390 and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2003.
The accused pleaded not guilty and his lawyer, Mr Najite Okobie, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms.
In his ruling, Magistrate Ayo Ayeni granted the accused bail in the sum of N1 million and one surety in the like sum.
Ayeni said the surety must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and also show evidence of tax payments.
The case was adjourned until October 17 for mention.
