Kindhearted Nigerian pays bill for woman detained by hospital

A good Samaritan has paid up the bills for a young lady who was detained with her newborn baby over hospital bills.

Punch reports that after reading the story which had gone viral a few days ago, the Good Samaritan reached out to the hospital and paid the accumulated bills of N215,000 and also gave her the sum of N50,000 to buy baby food and clothes.

The kindhearted Nigerian who chose to remain anonymous, responded to appeals made by Agbo to Nigerians to help her settle the bills so she would be released.

The management of the hospital God Cures Hospital has also appealed to Nigerians to stop calling at the facility to pay for the bill as the young lady and her baby have been discharged following the settlement of the bills.

Recall that Pulse also reported the story of how the hospital detained Agbo after she was delivered of the baby through caesarean section in June and her lover, Chibugo Duru, could not pay the money charged by the hospital.

Duru had said that he could only pay N30,000 out of the N245,000 billed for the operation as he had lost his job and all efforts to run around and get the balance of the money had been abortive.

But the hospital had denied the allegations, saying the 27-year-old abandoned his lover and baby despite signing an undertaking and claimed that Duru once assaulted the new mother during an altercation over the bill.

A top official of the hospital who asked not to be named said the man paid the money into the hospital’s account.

“The man called through his aide. I was told he is a politician based in Abuja. We also had to give him some discounts.

After paying the bill, he gave the woman and her baby the sum of N50,000. He said he wanted to be anonymous.

But since then, we have had some other people coming to the hospital and offering to settle the bill.

I think it is important you help us tell people to stop offering to pay the bill. I have personally received up to three calls in this case already.”

Agbo who also confirmed the development said she has returned home with the baby.

Duru confirmed that Agbo and their son are now back home.

“She was discharged on Friday morning. We are in the house together now; both mother and child are fine," he was reported to have said on the telephone when he was called to confirm the news.
