Police arraign 37-yr-old man over alleged theft of cocoa tree logs

The Prosecutor, Insp. Caleb Leranmo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 25 at about 10:00 a.m., at Igbo Aso farm area in Ado-Ekiti.
Leranmo alleged that Omotosho stole some logs of cocoa trees valued at N120, 000 belonging to one Chief Sunday Ogunleye.
He said that the accused also maliciously damaged cocoa trees valued N100, 000 belonging to the complainant.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Section 451 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap C16 Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
Leranmo, however, asked for adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
The Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Ajibade, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ajibade said that the sureties must have verifiable addresses and voter’s cards as part of the bail conditions.
The case was adjourned until November 21 for hearing.
