26-yr-old salesman in court for allegedly stealing tomatoes

The accused stole the goods from the shop of the complainant, one Mr Onyebuchi Ekenne.

Gbadebo, 26, whose address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Akpan Ikem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 2, at Ashipa area of Seme border.

According to him, the accused stole the goods from the shop of the complainant, one Mr Onyebuchi Ekenne.

“He had the key to the store as the salesman, and so, clandestinely took the cartons of tinned tomatoes and sold them at the Agbalata Market in Badagry,” the prosecutor said.

The offence contravenes Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes three years imprisonment if the accused is found liable of the offence.

Ruling on an application, the Magistrate, Mr Jimoh Adefioye, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties who must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case until September 30 for mention.
