The prosecutor said Emmanuel confessed to the crime and begged for mercy during police investigation.
Emmanuel, who resides at Kubwa Village, Abuja, was convicted on a charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, had told the court that one Sani Jubril of Wuse 2, Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station, Abuja, on May 8.
Auhioboh said the convict opened the complainant’s car to enable him steal the battery.
The prosecutor said the convict was caught in the act.
He said Emmanuel confessed to the crime and begged for mercy during police investigation,
The convict prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, saying that hunger pushed him to commit the crime.
Auhioboh said the offence was punishable under Section 95 of the Penal Code.
The presiding judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced Emmanuel to two months imprisonment.
Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option of N6,000 fine.
He warned him to desist from committing crimes, adding that the sentence would serve as deterrent to others similar offenders.
