Man, 20, arraigned for allegedly brandishing gun in public

Akinpelu said Adebiyi who was in the company of others still at large, publicly brandished the gun with the intention to cause fear and panic.

Adebiyi, whose address is unknown, is being tried for a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful possession and breach of public peace.

Police Prosecutor Ibijoke Akinpelu told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 24 at about 12.22 a.m. at Tafawa Balewa Crescent, Surulere, Lagos.

She said residents, who were uncomfortable with Adebiyi’s conduct, reported the incident at the police station.

According to her, the conduct is likely to cause a breach of peace.

The offences contravened Sections 51, 168, 298 (3) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The Chief Magistrate, Mr P. A. Ojo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until June 12 for trial.
