A man who could not stand to see his children sent out of school on account of his inability to pay their fees, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, attached to the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, while trying to smuggle narcotics out of the country, alongside 7 other smugglers.

The drugs on them, according to the NDLEA, weighed 41.6 kilograms, with a street value of N374.6m.

The 'loving father', Chukuenyem Obi, 48-years-old, who is based in South Africa, told the operatives that he decided to undertake the risky trade to raise money to send his children to school since his business has been experiencing a downturn in recent times, a situation which caused his children to be sent out of school.

"I struggle to feed my family by selling foodstuffs. At present, my capital is so small that the business is almost moribund. A friend introduced me to drug trafficking. He promised to pay me 15,000 South African rand.

My children are out of school because of my inability to pay their tuition. This is my first time of dealing in drugs and I regret everything. I pray to be out of this problem."
