Great grand mum of six Flo Marshallsay, aged 96, will tie the knot with great-grandad Bill Griffiths, 91, at a church ceremony with 40 guests next month.

A couple with a combined age of 187 Walks down the aisle and are set to become two of the world’s oldest newlyweds .

Great grand mum of six Flo Marshallsay, aged 96, will tie the knot with great-grandad Bill Griffiths, 91, at a church ceremony with 40 guests next month.

Retired engineer Bill proposed to former pub landlady Flo in front of his son Peter, 63, over a cup of tea at the home where the two widowers have lived together for a decade.

“Bill sat up on the settee and said to Peter ‘do you mind if I ask Flo to marry me ?' And he said ‘well, you better ask her really’.

“Then Bill looked at me and said ‘Flo, will you marry me?’ I said ‘yes’ and he gave me a great big kiss. He didn’t go down on one knee but it was still very romantic.

“I couldn’t believe it when he asked me. It was a real shock. He just grabbed the bull by the horns. “It really took me by surprise but then life is full of surprises.

“My friends and family are delighted, they think it’s wonderful but some said I’m crazy. Found love again. Bill and Florence have known one another for almost 20 years

“You’re never too old to get married. You’re only as old as you feel and I don’t feel old. Physically I am but mentally I’m as fit as a fiddle. “If anybody told me I was too old to walk down the aisle I would tell them they were talking rubbish.” Bill who has seven grandchildren and one great grandchild lamented on.why he loves Flo, saying that she is very loving and kind.

They met when dancing and Flo cooked meals for Bill after his wife died. The lovebirds, from Oldbury, West Mids, will marry at St Hilda’s Parish Church in Smethwick, West Mids., on January 16. George Kirby, 103, and Doreen Luckie, 91, became the world’s oldest newlyweds at a ceremony in their home town.
