Kona Signature Presents 'Unilag Fashion Week'

University of Lagos in partnership with KONASIGNATURE is organizing a 3 day event celebrating Fashion, art, entertainment and culture tagged: UNILAG FASHION WEEK to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Nigeria’s foremost educational institution, The University of Lagos. Events scheduled in the three day long Fashion Week include Seminars, Workshops, Runway Shows, Musical Performances, Exhibitions, Gala & Award Night amongst other fun packed activities.

In order to provide equal opportunity to the very creative minds of the young people expected to participate in the UNILAG Fashion Week, there will be a pre-event short listing process in form of a competition to select deserving Designers and Models to grace the runway.

“The Catwalk” is a Designer and Modelling competition to discover new talent in the fashion industry. It is geared at encouraging up and coming talent and will create a platform for aspiring designers and models to showcase themselves. We believe that this contest will play a significant role in facilitating the education of students that hope to take up a career in fashion after they graduate from university as well as give a platform to talents in the fashion industry who will otherwise not have the opportunity to showcase their creativity.

To ensure quality in the selection of the models and designers the panel of judges will consist of notable figures and professionals in the fashion industry both in Nigeria and the UK; famous international designer Adebayo Jones; world class designer KITOKO ), the CEO of Kona Signature Naomi Keshinro, CEO and Editor in chief of DIVA SCRIBE Magazine as judges of the competition, and are in talks with several others.

A date had already been set for the event but due to the sudden and tragic death of the Vice Chancellor Prof Adetokunbo Babatunde Sofoluwe, the dates for the event had to be moved to later in the year. This is to enable the school to mourn his death as well as giving others the event organisers to include a commemorative event to immortalize his memory during the fashion week. Details of the new date will be communicated in due course via our website www.unilagfashionweek.com, our twitter handle @unilagfashion and our facebook page facebook.com/unilagfashionweek.

In the mean time members of the public can register to enter the modelling competition or designer’s competition by downloading the form from our website www.unilagfashionweek.com. The cost for registration is N500 for Unilag Students, N1000 for other students and N2500 for the general public.
