14-yr-old arraigned for raping neighbour’s 5-yr-old daughter
A 14-year-old boy has been remanded in a boys' home for allegedly raping a 5-year-old child.
The boy, a secondary school student, was said to have defiled the girl whose parents live beside his at 2, Kao Close, Santos Estate, Dopemu, a suburb of the state on February 4, inside the toilet.
When he was arraigned before Chief Magistrate, Tajudeen Elias, the boy pleaded not guilty and Elias ordered that he be remanded at the Boys Correctional Centre, Isheri, till March 23, when he would listen to his bail application.
The police prosecutor, Benedict Aigbokhan, had earlier told the court:
“One of the neighbours, who heard the cry of the girl, had to rush into the toilet where he apprehended the accused while he was in the act.”
The offence, according to Aigbokhan, contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Section 137, which prescribes that any person who has sexual intercourse with a child, is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for life.
