Family of youth tortured to death petition Edo CP, AIG
The family of the slain staff of Protea Hotel in Benin, Edo State, has petitioned the CP and AIG in charge of the zone in their quest for justice.
Copies of the petition were also dispatched copy to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 5, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly and the Benin branch of Nigerian Bar Association.
The family is not satisfied with the excuse the police gave that Edeh was knocked down by a car while trying to escape from the police, and they want justice, just as the state Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has ordered a full scale investigation into the death of the young man.
The lawyer to the aggrieved family, Raphael Okhuelegbe, said that his client wanted a thorough investigation into the matter and the culprit brought to justice.
On Tuesday, March 17, 2015, angry protesters locked down parts of Benin City as they protested the death of 22-year-old Edeh who was allegedly tortured by the police till he gave up the ghost.
The deceased was alleged to have stolen N45,000 from a guest in one of the rooms he attended to.
He was arrested by the police and died in their detention due to what his family say was a case of torture.
