Shops in the Nyanya market in Abuja, have reportedly been converted into brothel and residential houses.
Candido strongly disapproved of the illegal practice which has increased hawking along streets in the state, making the environment generally embarrassing and unhygienic.
When officials of the council embarked on the evacuation of street traders on Wednesday, September 28, it was discovered that majority of the shops were serving alternative purposes.
During an interview with Daily Post, one of the commercial sex workers who had made her home in the market said the place had become her only source of livelihood, made worse by the condition of the economy.
“You know say the market no get gate, so e dey open 24/7, people dey stay for here from night till morning.
“I don dey do this business for this place; e don reach like two years now. As Naija hard so, na only dis place dey help us survive.
“Dem dey give us from one thousand to three thousand, but if business bad, we dey reduce am.
“If you come here in the night now, you go see plenty customers for here,” she revealed.
During their patrol, the security agents ran into one of the comercial sex workers entertaining a client. Although she denied the fact, the council arrested three ladies and two men for engaging in sexual activities in a shop turned brothel.
