Vulcaniser remanded in prison for leading 30-man gang in robbing neighbour
According to Punch Metro, Audu and a friend had been driving on Ijegun Road when Dimeji and his alleged gang members, are said to have attacked them.
Jelili Dimeji, 32, has been remanded in prison for allegedly leading a 30-man gang to rob his neighbour, Oladipupo Audu.
Dimeji and Audu are reported to live in Isheri Osun, in the Ijegun area of Lagos state.
The reports reveal that the gang had successfully grabbed Audu’s Toyota Camry, his gold jewellery worth about N1,450,000 and a cash sum of N300,000.
The car had later been recovered at a junction by policemen attached to the Rapid Response Squad.
Audu revealed to the police that the suspect had cautioned his cohorts, who had wanted to kill him, stopping them because they lived in the same area.
Recounting the incident, Audu said:
“My friend and I were going to buy a ram and foodstuffs around 5am on September 24 when we saw some men flagging down my car. They were about 30 in number. They wanted to kill me, but Jelili (Dimeji) cautioned them and told them we were brothers in the community. They collected my car, gold necklace, two gold rings a gold bracelet and a sum of N300,000. But the car has been recovered.”
Dimeji had later been arrested in October by policemen from the Isheri Osun division following the robbery operation and was later transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Ikeja, Lagos State.
Reports go on to reveal the a locally-made gun, phones and two Automated Teller Machine cards had been recovered from him.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emuerhi, arraigned Dimeji on two counts of robbery before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
