For allegedly stabbing a man with a broken bottle, a 29-year-old horticulturist, Ola Obafunso, was on Monday charged before an Abule-Egba, Lagos. The accused, who lives at 12, Adijat Lawal St., Onikanga in Ayobo, a Lagos suburb, is facing a charge of assault occasioning harm.

"Out of anger, the accused hit the complainant with a bottle on his neck and he started bleeding. If not for the intervention of the people there who rushed him to the hospital, he would have bled to death," she said.
The prosecution said the offence was committed on June 14 at a beer parlour at Landlord Street, Ayobo. Insp. Racheal Williams told the court that an argument ensued between the accused and the complainant, Richard Martins, over a mobile phone.
The offence, according to her, contravenes Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes three-year for assault occasioning harm. The accused pleaded not guilty.
Ruling on the bail application of the accused, the Magistrate, Mrs Adenike Shonubi, granted him bail in the sum of N10, 000 with a surety in like sum. She adjourned the case to Sept. 14 for further hearing
