A 22-year-old barber who allegedly defiled a 13-year-old girl in his shop was on Tuesday docked at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates' Court.

The accused, Sulaimon Femi, who lives at 7, Ajenifuja Close, Alausa in Ikeja, is facing a charge of defilement of a minor.

The prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Eigbokhon, told the court that the accused, described as a family friend, had on Jan. 5, invited the minor into his shop at 1, Megoje St., Alausa where he defiled her.

"The accused shut the door at the victim, a 13-year-old girl, increased the volume of his musical set and defiled her: Thereafter, he gave her N100 which she refused.

"The victim cried to the house, reported the incident to her aunty and the accused was apprehended," he said.

He said that the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 137 prescribes that any person who has sexual intercourse with a child is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for life.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The chief magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, granted the accused bail in the sum of N1million with two sureties in like sum.

He ordered the accused to pay N200,000 into the court registrar’s account as part of the bail condition and adjourned the case to Feb. 17 for mention.
