An Egor Magistrates’ Court in Edo on Wednesday remanded a 21-year-old man, Peace Akpos, in Oko Prisons for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl.

Akpos is facing a charge of rape. The Prosecutor, C.S.O Nnamdi, told the court that the accused committed the offence sometime in 2014 at Ravic Education Centre in Ogida Quarters in Benin.
Nnamdi said that the accused had unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl. He said the offence contravened Section 222 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 48, Vol. ll, Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976 as applicable in Edo.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charged. The Magistrate, Mr W.E. Aziegbemhin, remanded the accused and adjourned the case till April 29 for hearing.
