Court remands man in prison for allegedly producing fake cough syrup
The accused who was not represented by a counsel, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Okereke, arraigned by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), is facing a five-count charge bordering on drug counterfeiting.
NAFDAC counsel Jombo Adumen told the court that the accused who resides at James Str., Iyiowa Odekpe, Onitsha, on Feb. 2, produced, packaged and sold, fake Codrux Cough Syrup in a manner that was misleading.
Adumen said Okereke committed an offence contrary to the Counterfeit and Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Food (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2004 and punishable under the same act.
In his ruling, the judge, Justice N. I. Oweibo, ordered that Okereke be remanded in prison and adjourned the case till April 11.
