Court jails 4 men for defrauding environmental protection board
Four men have been sent to jail for defrauding the Environment Protection Board in Abuja to the tune of N288,000.
The convicts; John Dodo, Mohammed Ndakupe, Sidiq Ibrahim and Abubakar Usman were found guilty of a seven-count charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery and criminal misappropriation.
Justice Adebukola Banjoko gave the convicts an option to pay N500,000 as fines each .
after their promise not to repeat the acts.
In his plea for leniency, their counsel, Mr Anthony Agbonlahor, told the court to temper justice with mercy because his clients were first time offenders.
He also said that throughout the duration of the trial, they had behaved themselves and carried on in good fate.
EFCC counsel Steve Odiase said this nine-year-old case was first filed on April 18, 2007.
“There had been issues, trials and changing of counsel throughout the duration of the trial,’’ he said.
He also said that he used one witness and the convicts’ voluntary statements made to the commission to champion the case.
