Husband slits wife's neck to stop her from studying abroad

A motorcyclist has been arrested in Uganda for slicing his wife's neck when she told him she would be traveling to the US to further her studies.

Monitor UG reports that Kisakye took the action after his wife's parents enrolled her for the course and she gleefully informed him.

Thinking that his wife would dump him after getting to the US, Kisakye allegedly used a knife to slice the neck of Nangozi before using the same knife to slice his own neck in a bid to commit suicide.

However, Nangozi was rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital where she has been receiving medical attention while Kisakye was arrested following reports made to the police and also taken to a hospital where he is kept under custody.

The Mukono Police District Commander, Rogers Sseguya, who confirmed the incident, said Kisakye is in critical condition at Kawolo Hospital. Sseguya added that Kisakye would be charged with attempted murder once he recovers.

Narrating the incident on her hospital bed, Nangozi said:

“He thought he had killed me. Actually, I was too weak and I could not scream. That was when he also cut his neck.

I was preparing to set off to America this very week. Unfortunately, my husband wanted to kill me, claiming that he wanted me to stay at home without upgrading my skills.”
