Tech giant to host 2017 overseas training course on Telecommunications Technologies for Nigeria

Trainees are selected from Nigeria ICT Related Governmental officials, technicians, enterprise supervisors.

The ceremony had in attendance the Honorable Consular of China Embassy, Mr. Zhao Linxiang; the Honorable President of China& Nigeria Relations’ Association, Senator Yusuf Buba Yakub; The Director IC Ministry of Budget and Planning (representing the Honorable minister of Budget and National Planning), Mr. Samuel Eloho, as well as MD of Huawei Abuja Office, Mr. Li Teng.

2017 Overseas Training course on Telecommunications Technologies is a program organized by Shenzhen Association for Promoting International Economic & Technological Cooperation. The program in Nigeria is co-organized by Huawei Technologies Nigeria Ltd., which aims at expanding Nigeria ICT Officials’ telecom management view, promoting the development of ICT industry in Nigeria, taking the advantage of Huawei’s local resources to boost ICT Talent development.

This 45 days training course (from July 17th to August 30th) will be held at Huawei Abuja Training Center. Trainees are selected from Nigeria ICT Related Governmental officials, technicians, enterprise supervisors. The course will present the lectures by using the method of theory-teaching integrated with site-visiting, arranging a series of lectures on Telecommunications Technologies of Submarine Optical Cable experience.

Main courses include:  The global ICT Industry development trend, ICT new technology and hot topics、Network & IP & IT technology, Telecom project management practice sharing, Telecom leadership development, etc. Furthermore, this training course will also include site-visits to the well-known telecom operators in Nigeria.

Mr. Li Teng, Deputy Managing Director of Huawei Technologies Nigeria LTD., said in his speech, Huawei is honored to provide training for Ministries and Government agencies to equip participants with the skills to develop national ICT plan and improve ICT infrastructure in their various fields.

Mr. Zhao Linxiang, the Honorable Consular of China Embassy expressed in his speech that “Telecommunication and ICT industry has a very important role in nowadays economy. Basically, this industry is supporting the other industries. In the age of information, the speed of convenience of information exchange decides the development of the economy. A vibrant telecommunications and ICT sector is required to drive and expand national production frontiers across all sectors of the economy. This means we should give this industry top priority.”

The Director IC Ministry of Budget and Planning, Samuel Eloho emphasized the importance of ICT by saying that today you cannot survive in this world without Information and Communication technology.

Senator Yusuf Buba Yakub, chairman of Nigeria-China Relations Committee, after his visit to Huawei Abuja office said, “When I went down around your building this morning, I see that most of your staffs are Nigerians. I think about 70% or so. I want to thank you for that and we want to encourage you in that part.”

Finally on behalf of the Speaker of House of Representative he assures that the Nigeria Parliament will continue to make laws that will make company’s operation in Nigeria very favorable without hitches.

Huawei has been continuously providing ICT trainings to Nigeria society. Partnership with the Ministry of Communication, Huawei had trained over one thousand girls ICT skills in 2014. In 2015, Huawei signed an MOU with the office of the Vice President to provide training for 2000 unemployed youth to empower them with necessary ICT skill.

This program is still ongoing and so far more than 1000 youths have taken the training.
