The police officers at the Bauchi State Police Command could not contain their tears when a 43-year-old father, Rabiu Yusuf, narrated how he tortured his 10-year-old son, Aliyu, to death because he was too stubborn and had refused to live with him, preferring to stay with his divorced mother.

Yusuf confessed that he was not happy with the situation of his son living with his mother and forcefully brought him back home and to stop him from running to his mother, chained him for ten days, till the poor boy gave up the ghost.

Yusuf said though he did not mean to kill his son, he was furious that the boy kept running away from home to stay with his mother whom he had divorced and married another wife, and wanted to teach him a lesson to make him listen to his father.

According to him, he had instructed the boy several times to return home but he refused, so he had to go to his former wife's place and forcefully take him home. On getting home, he decide to chain him inside a room so that he would not run away.

Hear him:

"Trouble started when I divorced his mother and married another wife. My son, Aliyu, followed his mother to her new home and I was not in support of the arrangement.

I called Aliyu several times to come back home because I want him to be in my custody as his father, but he refused, so I went to the mother’s home in annoyance and brought him back home.

When I brought him back to my house, I chained him and locked him up inside the room, so that he did not escape and go back to his mother, but unfortunately he died."

In a statement, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Haruna Mohammed, said that Yusuf conspired with one Ismail Idris, to kill the boy.
