A murder suspect has told the police that he and his gang killed a traditional ruler because he is wicked.
Sunday Agbara Edwin, one of the suspects who murdered the traditional ruler of Nkerefi, in Nkanu East Local Government Area, Igwe Peter Onuoha, on Saturday, July 11, 2015, has confessed that his gang killed the reverred Igwe because he was wicked and oppressive, killing people and throwing their bodies into the river.
The police in the state report that Edwin and his gang of five stormed the palace of the monarch in commando style and slaughtered the king.
The stste Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ebere Amaraizu, that Edwin was one of the kingpins and masterminds of the gang which had been terrirising the community.
“The suspects numbering about six, after perpetrating the dastardly act, took to their heels to unknown destination to avoid being caught.
The state police command, through its operatives of the homicide, swung into action which took them out of the state in search of the suspects and on that note, through a well gathered intelligence, nabbed one of the kingpins at Ebu village in Illah Oshimili Local Government Area of Delta State."
During his confession, Edwin said:
“We were not happy with what the monarch was doing in our community. The monarch was violating human rights by killing people and throwing them into the river and also collecting people’s land by force in the community and if you opposed him, he would deal with you.
Hence, we organized ourselves and visited him on that day, as well as those supporting him. Two shots were fired on that day but not by me. I only went there with cutlass, although I never knew that it would have resulted into this kind of situation. I am truly sorry about the whole thing and I also regret the act.”
