Wife locks husband inside room, sets house on fire in Katsina

A woman who was married to off to a man without her consent has killed the husband by setting him on fire.

Katsina News reports that Lawal who lived with her newly wed husband on Kogo Street, Sabuwa Local Government Area of the state, told the court that she was forcefully married off to the deceased by her parents despite her insistence that she was in love with another man and could not live with him as his wife.

At the arraignment, the prosecuting police officer, Kabir Mohammed, told the court that Sani died at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital where he was referred to from the Funtua General Hospital, where he was initially rushed to, due to the first degree burns he suffered in the fire.

Mohammed said a neighbour reported the matter to police before the suspect was arrested and charged to court according to section 221 of penal code.

The presiding judge, Hadiza Danja, ordered that Lawal be remanded in prison custody pending advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions and adjourned the matter to May 31, for further hearing.
