Robbery suspects claim economic hardship made them steal
The suspects consisting of two brothers, were arrested for crimes involving burglary and robbery.
The suspects, who are brothers have however blamed their plight on the economic hardship in the state.
According to Elijah, one of the brother, they turned to burglary and stealing after losing their jobs. He mentioned that they have never killed anyone since venturing into crime.
Hilda Harrison, the state police commissioner said a single-barrel locally-made gun was seized from the suspects after their arrest.
They use this along with other members of their gang to carry out their criminal activities.
“While our anti-robbery team was on patrol of Abusoro community, some boys whose movement were suspicious within the community were arrested with combined efforts of policemen and youths of the area .
“Elijah Okpara was arrested with a black bag containing single-barrel locally-made gun while the other two boys escaped but preliminary investigation is on with a view to arresting the remaining suspects.”
Elijah, who is only 20 years old admitted that he was introduced to the criminal venture by one of his friends.
