29-year-old bricklayer, Ibrahim Tijani and his neighbour Bashorun Okanla got into an argument after the latter complained about fumes coming out from the generator of the former.
Man kills neighbour over generator fumes in Lagos
A man in Lagos hacked her friend to death during a scuffle that ensued in the Okun, Ajah, Ogombo are of Lagos.
According to , Tijani was said to have turned on his generator around 11am with the fumes escaping into Bashorun Okanla’s room.
Okanla according to the report, approached Tijani to warn him about the fumes and an argument ensued.
The argument was said to have degenerated into a fight and in the ensuing brawl, the suspect picked a cutlass from his room and cut the victim in the hand and leg.
Okanla was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
It was also reported that after killing his neighbour, Tijani gave himself over to the police in order to escape being lynched by angry neighbours.
Tijani in his statement to the police admitted to killing his neighbour and revealed that Okanla destroyed his generator which made him angry.
“I became angry and went inside my house and picked my cutlass. I used it on him,” Tijani told the police.
Okanla’s corpse had been deposited in a mortuary.
The Spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident to Punch and revealed that the case has been transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation for further investigation.
