A fatal accident occurred on Thursday, May 12, 2016, on the Benin-Ore Expressway at Ofosu town, in the Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State, leading to the death of two persons and leaving one injured.

The accident occurred when a petrol tanker carrying 33,000 litres of petrol lost control and fell into a ditch, which immediately started a fire that burnt the driver and his assistant to death.

The third occupant of the vehicle however survived the fire, but sustained injuries after being quickly rescued by the Ondo State Police Command, Punch reports.

This brought movement on the expressway to a stand-still, as motorists driving towards Benin and Lagos were said to have opted for alternative routes to their destination.
