Police arrest 4 of 5-man kidnap syndicate
Officers of the Delta state police command have arrested four members of a five-man kidnap syndicate.
The group is reportedly notorious for the kidnap operations carried out within Asaba, the state capital and its environs, Punch reports.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Zanna Ibrahim, made the revelation in a statement issued on Sunday, November 20.
According to Punch, the statement gave the names of the arrested suspects as Malachy Chikwado, 28, of No. 10, Okocha Street, Cable Point, Asaba; John Obi, 22, of No. 22 Femi-Okun Estate Lekki, Lagos; Osita Obiakwe, 24, of Jarret Street, Ogbe-Ofu, Asaba and Ezeah Chinedu, 36, of Uzowani, Igbueze L.G.A, Enugu State.
The statement reads in part,
“On 13/11/2016, at about 1710hrs, a five-man kidnap gang led by one Malachy Chikwado ‘m’ lured one man (name withheld) and his girl friend to Dema Kitchen, Asaba. While there at Dema Kitchen, other members, one John Obi ‘m’ , Osita Obiakwe ‘m’, Ezeah Chinedu ‘m’ and two others now at large left their gang leader, Malachy Chikweado, with their targeted victim and went to lie in wait for him in a bush around his house at Bonsac area Asaba.
“As the victim was returning home, the suspects came out and attempted to kidnap him into a Toyota car. The victim, however, raised the alarm which attracted people from the neighbourhood, thereby forcing them to abandon their prey and escape. On receipt of the report, Operatives of SAKCCS commenced a diligent investigation and arrested the aforementioned suspects from different locations”, the statement added.
The suspects will be arraigned in court soon.
