The Zamfara police command have arrested four suspected child traffickers amongst other criminals, in the state.
Speaking during a press briefing in Gasau on Monday, September 26, the commissioner of Police, Mr Adaji Gebriel, said that the other criminals were guilty of armed robbery and cattle rustling.
The four suspected female child traffickers include Rita Eke, Josphine Aruja, Dauda Maryam and Chizeba Eke.
He said that investigations carried out by anti-human trafficking unit of the command revealed that the four apprehended suspects rented an apartment for a pregnant woman, one Hadiza Lawal at Filin-jirgi area in Gusau.
The suspects reportedly cared for Lawal who hails from Shinkafi LGA, while waiting for her to deliver her baby, promising to buy the child for N200, 000.
The CP added that, following the birth of her son, Lawal refused to sell her child to the suspects as arranged earlier, and instead, reported to the police.
According to Gebriel, Lawal, her baby and the four suspects are currently in the custody of the command and the suspects will soon be charged to court.

Meanwhile, the CP revealed that dangerous weapons including eight AK 47 rifles were recovered from the suspects of cattle rustling, armed robbery, rape and members of a notorious criminal gang led by one Buharin Daji.
He said that the suspects are currently under investigation by the command and would be charged to court following the completion of the investigations.
Gebriel also appealed to the general public to continue to aid the police with useful information on criminals and their activities.
