The death of 40-year-old Patrick Sawyer in Lagos, Nigeria sparked fears of an epidemic not only in the country, but all around the world.

Mr. Sawyer

The international community has begun to raise awareness after three people were tested for the virus in the UK and Hong Kong due to symptoms similar to the disease.

The 3 persons have been cleared but this has done almost nothing to assuage the fears of people worldwide about the scourge that has claimed over 600 lives in West Africa.

A spokesperson for the United States Center for Disease Control, Stephan Monroe said:

“No Ebola cases have been reported in the United States and the likelihood of this outbreak spreading outside of West Africa is very low. I want to underscore that Ebola poses little risk to the U.S. general population.”

An expert also said that even if any case was reported, the US had adequate isolation facilities and medical equipment to handle it.
