A 25-year-old man has been remanded in prison for drowning his three-year-old younger brother in a local stream.
The incident was discovered on Sunday, September 11, when the little boy went missing and a search party organized by the villagers after the parents raised an alarm, could not locate the boy.
Ogobuchi was said to have confessed to his family that he killed his brother and took them to the stream where he had drowned the kid on Tuesday.
The father, Amegu Ogbonna, who was shocked by the confession, alerted the villagers.
“Ogobuchi told us that he is the one that killed Wisdom. He asked us to follow him to show us where he kept the body. We went with him to the stream where he threw the boy into.
We asked him why he killed his brother and he said a spirit directed him to do that, telling him that he will be a messiah in the world. We have reported the matter to the police and they have arrested Ogobuchi.”
Speaking on the incident, the community head, Chief Nwamage Uche, said Amegu reported to him that his three-year-old child was missing and he mobilized the villagers for a search party which led to the revelation by the suspect that he was responsible for the disappearance of the boy.
The suspect who was arraigned at the Magistrates’ Court in Abakaliki, on a one-count charge of unlawfully causing the death of the boy, had no counsel to represent him in the matter, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Nnachi Olughu, ordered that Ogobuchi be remanded in prison custody till November 18, 2016, when the case will be heard.
