Dangote uses police to force 800 staff to collect sack letters

800 staff members of Dangote Cement were sacked in one fell swoop by the management who used the police to force them to collect their letters.

The affected staff members, according to their posts on Twitter, were forced out of the company’s premises with the management using anti-riot policemen to force them to collect their termination letters and also handover company property in their possession.

One of the affected staff who spoke to Pulse on phone said the management of Dangote Cement carried out the act without first informing them of their offence and they were humiliated and treated like dogs.

“It was very unfortunate the way the management treated like dogs or even worse than dogs. Many of us had resumed work on Monday, February 6, 2017, only to meet fully armed mobile policemen all over the place.

While still wondering what was going on, were told that we have been sacked and the policemen forced us to collect the sack letters and hand over company properties before they forced us to leave.

Is this fair in this harsh economy? How can you sack someone just like that?”

But a senior staff of the company who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the affected staff were indicted in various cases including theft of company property and willful damage and were warned several times without any change.
