Court arraigns textile trader who attempted suicide in Lagos

The presiding judge has imposed a psychiatric test on the accused in view of a subsequent arraignment.

Momoh, who was arraigned today was prevented from killing herself by the state police patrol squad on March 24, 2017.

She however pleaded not guilty to attempted suicide before Magistrate T. A. Elias, the presiding judge.

This prompted the latter to grant her bail in the sum of N500,000 while also instructing that the accused be subjected to a psychiatric evaluation pending her next court date.

The trader's suicide bid came after a doctor, Allwell Orji killed himself after flying off the Third Mainland Bridge into the lagoon.

Marine police were able to recover his body on Sunday, March 19, 2017, after 24 hours of intense search.

The deceased was enroute a Medical and Dental Association of Nigeria meeting before asking his driver to pull over the car and subsequently entered the treacherous water.

He had just received an unknown call according to earlier reports.
