Woman tortures grandchild for allegedly eating rice without permission

A grandmother has been arrested for allegedly torturing her child for eating food without her permission.

According to reports, Adebayo had accused her grandchild, a primary two pupil of St. James Primary School, Ijeun-Tuntun, Abeokuta, of eating part of cooked rice she kept in the kitchen without her consent.

The incident which occurred at Baba Olodo House at Ijeun-Tuntun/ Olorombo community, has landed the girl at the State Hospital, Ijaiye, where she is currently receiving treatment while her grandmother has been detained at the Ibara Police Station.

The woman was said to have been served the rice at a ceremony and she brought it home and kept the bowl in the kitchen. Her hungry granddaughter later took a portion of the food and ate, an action that did not go down well with the woman who, according to witnesses, beat the victim mercilessly before using the hot pot to inflict injuries on her body.

The incident forced neighbours and other residents to alert the police and officials of the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and the suspect was promptly arrested while arrangements were being made to transfer the case to the Anti- Human Trafficking Department.
