Ogun State government adopts boy chained by father
Succour has come the way of the nine-year-old boy chained by his father for months on allegations of stealing and evil spirits possession.
The seriously malnoruished boy was rescued from his father by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the State Police Command, after he had been in the state for more than one month.
The inhuman case of child abuse has drawn condemnation from every strata of the society, including the hierarchy of the Celestial Church of Christ, which released a statement saying it does not condone such abuse in any form.
The licky boy has now been handed over to the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and was received by the Director of Social Welfare Services in the ministry, Shotubo Olumide, and has been moved to the Stella Obasanjo Children’s Home.
The wife of the state governor, Olufunso Amosun, is also said to have indicated interest in taking care of the boy.
While handing over the boy to the ministry, the State Police spokesperson, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said:
“It is a terrible case. Apart from being criminal, it is inhuman. The command condemns the act in totality. The AIG has directed that the matter be thoroughly investigated."
"We want to assure members of the public that the case will be used to serve as a deterrent to those who abuse children.”
