48-yr-old man in court for raping 8-yr-old girl
A 48-year-old man has been docked at a Lagos Magistrates' Court for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl repeatedly.
The accused who resides at No. 20, Jacob Adeleye Street, Itire in Surulere area of the state, according to Punch, is facing trial on a two-count charge of defilement and indecent treatment of a child.
The police prosecutor, Sergeant Anthonia Osayande, had earlier told the court that Ekeh committed the offences sometime between September 20 and 21, 2016 when he invited the minor into his room in the afternoon when most of the tenants in the building were not around and defiled her.
“According to the doctor’s report obtained from the hospital where the girl was examined, the eight-year-old girl was indecently treated by the accused," Osayande said.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravenes sections 135 and 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.
When the charges were read to Ekeh, he pleaded not guilty and the president of the court, Chief Magistrate Ipaye Nwachukwu granted him bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned to December 13, 2016, for advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions.
