Police officer arrested for raping 3-yr-old girl in Ebonyi

A police officer has been arrested and arraigned for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl.

Rape must be condemned in strong terms

Samuel Okere, a police corporal serving at Ugbodo Division in Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, is now regretting the devil that got into him and made him rape a three-year-old girl, after the state Juvenile Welfare Centre (JWC), dragged him to a court to answer for his crimes.

The suspect was said to have committed the act at the toddler's father’s house where is a co-tenant after her parents who are both teachers, had gone to work.

But by the time they returned, the little girl started complaining of pains in her private part as she could not walk properly.

When her father, Emmanuel Iyiekuna, asked the girl what happened to her, she narrated how the policeman inserted something inside her private part.

When the angry father went to Okere's house to ask him on why he would do such a thing to the child, the culprit allegedly admitted to committing the crime but said he only used his finger to defile the girl and not his manhood.

He also offered the angry parents the sum of N50, 000 to take care of the victim and bury the case but the man refused to accept the money and instead, reported the case at the police station.

The little girl was also taken for a medical examination and after examining her, it was discovered that her hymen has been broken.

A case of defilement was reported to the state family law centre, a special court in charge of treating such cases and other issues but at the court, Okere denied having carnal knowledge of the girl.

The Chairman of the court, Elizabeth Nwali, petitioned the state Commissioner of Police, Peace Ibekwe, over the matter, calling for her intervention and investigation.
