A jilted lover, Paul Nwokobia, could not take the fact that his lover, Rosemary Nanaifa, had called off their relationship, and had to teach her some bitter lesson: by bathing her with acid.

But that lesson has landed him in police custody as he has been arrested by police detectives in Lagos after he committed such an abominable act on a woman he dated for five good years.

According to the 23-year-old caterer who is on admission at the Intensive care Unit of the University of Lagos Teaching Hospital (LUTH), when she decided to call of the affair when she saw that it was going nowhere, Nwokobia had repeatedly threatened her and warned that he was going to deal with her ruthlessly.

She said she only took those threats with a pinch of the salt, believing a man she once loved with all her heart could not have the heart to harm her. But little did she know Nwokobia had a sinister plan to douse her with acid, until he carried out his threat.

“I was at work one day when a private number called me around 4pm. The caller was a lady. She said she wanted me to bake cake for her. She said she would call back in the evening.

At about  8:30pm, the woman called back and said I should meet her at Surulere. She said she would be in a red car. I was wearing a red blouse too. When I got to the spot, I did not see any red car and she was not calling back.

Suddenly, I noticed someone drew my hair from behind and suddenly poured acid on my face down to my waist. I fell to the ground, screaming in pains before passersby rushed me to the hospital and later alerted my family.

When it happened, I couldn’t see very well, but I’m sure it was a man. The man fled the area immediately. I left Paul in September and since then, he had been threatening me.

I didn’t know his plans. I left him because he did not have a stable job and he wasn’t honest. Instead of me to remain with him and for him to keep deceiving me I decided to move on with my life.”

Nwokobia who was later arrested by policemen from the Itire Police Station, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, for further investigation.
