25-yr-old butcher charged with stabbing colleague with knife

Alausa, whose address was not provided in court, is facing a charge of assault.

The prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Sept.4 at 11: a.m., at Sabo Market in Ado-Ekiti.

He said the accused stabbed the complainant, Habib Laidi in his left hand, while they were fighting.

“The complainant reported the matter to the police who arrested the accused,’’ he said.

Okunade said the offence contravened Section 338 (1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor pleaded with the court to adjourn the case so that he could study the file and assemble his witnesses.

The counsel to the accused, Mrs Oluwatoyin Abegunde, urged the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Modupe Afeniforo, granted the accused a N50, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

She said the sureties must own a property within the jurisdiction of the court.

Afeniforo also ordered that both parties should maintain peace.

She adjourned the case until September 29 for mention.
