Some of the perks of the new aircraft include 50% less noise emission than its predecessors, 15% less fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emission and a cabin that is designed for a more efficient use of space, seating up to 180 passengers.
According to Mashable, the aircraft is designed to be more quiet and efficient than its predecessors, and will make its maiden voyage from Frankfurt Airport to Hamburg on Sunday.
Speaking on the development, Carsten Spohr, CEO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG said:
"We are pleased to be the first airline in the world to take possession of the Airbus A320neo, The cutting-edge technologies of Airbus and Pratt & Whitney make the A320neo the most efficient and quietest aircraft for short- and medium-haul flights by far."
The aircraft will service Lufthansa's hubs in Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich, and by the end of the year, Lufthansa will add five Airbus A320neos to its fleet.
80 airlines have placed about 4,500 orders for the Airbus A320neo since 2010 including Qatar Airlines, Gulf Air and Swiss Air.
