Star rapper features in GQ Style's latest issue

GQ met up with Pittsburgh rapper, Wiz Khalifa at about the same time he had a DJ residency at Las Vegas nightclub Tao. The emcee dished on his famous feud with fellow rapper Kanye West.

Wiz Khalifa

Earlier this year, Wiz Khalifawas entangled in a messy Twitter fight with none other than the controversial Kanye West over West’s since-changed album title 'Waves'.

Yeezy released an unsettling and rather vicious series of tweets claiming, “‘I am your OG and I will be respected,” goes as far as bringing Khalifa’s young son into the matter, then conceding that he liked Wiz’s pants.

But Khalifa isn’t uncomfortable because of the feud and his pants are by no means any less cool. Actually, he’s still the favorite rapper of 19-year-olds around the world.

Here are a few excerpts from the GQ feature: “Wiz, just waking up as midnight comes on, materializes out of the fog, shirtless and barefoot, skinny and tall, vertical as an exclamation point. His frail torso seems borrowed from a Depression-era pneumonia victim. His dreads turn honey-colored right as they hit his face, like he’s a Tolkien character in whose footprints flowers grow. Ever literal, he has the words Wiz Khalifa tattooed on his right arm.”

Wiz is serenely oblivious, bending over a laptop to stitch together the DJ set he’s about to play downstairs. His nose ring glints in the light. Little Lee Krasner abstracts of smoke drift up past the chandelier. There are now so many joints in circulation that it gets confusing, like a busy dinner party when you have the carrots but someone is also trying to pass you the fish.”

“Later, they made peace, or at least said they did. But now, in the suite, Wiz leans over a Serato turntable. ‘I’ma do this,’ he says, miming fading down the music and grabbing a microphone: ‘Fuck Kanye!’ Ha-HEEH…It ’s important to clarify that this—yelling “Fuck Kanye”—is not what he actually does when he DJs at the club later.”

In regards to apologizing:

“Did he apologize?

‘Mm-hmm.’

Did you?

‘I have nothing to apologize for.'”
