Now a lot of people are confused about presentation on the runway, it's the place where you can get creative (crazy is allowed, everything to put pieces in the best light possible is entertained) styling pieces to form a presentation because essentially the best foot should be be put forward in this case.
A creative designer apart from seeing pieces on muses at the end of the day tries his/her best to show off the pieces in every best way possible, there's no disputing that in some cases emergency D.I.Ys happen (backstage) but all these are done to present in a way that aligns with what the entire collection has as its story.
At the Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday February 28th 2017 models walked down the runway with big Margiela 5 AC handbags on their heads instead of a hair accessories or even hats of some kind- which one would normally expect.
A lot of style enthusiast started asking around if the new trend Margiela showed at the Fashion Week was practical and if it was actually one that could be copped, social media went crazy and people were asking if it's one to jump on (like seriously?).
(It would be interesting to see people willing to wear their bags as hats though- but that's honestly stupid to me) I get asked a lot why designers show ''things people can't wear'' at fashion weeks but it's simple, that's styling and presentation.
You don't have to style pieces the way they come on the runway (some can when the looks work together while some try to make 'bold statements' wearing looks off the runway top to toe and exactly how it was presented), the pieces can be worn as separates or an item off an entire look can be styled and so on.
The bags as hats on the models for the Maison Margiela show was perfect for the presentation, the styling choice worked well (in my opinion) with the looks presented making the looks the bags were paired with stand out (Royal Guards style never looked so high fashion).
Next time before rushing to recreate what you see trending, be sure it works for you- yes style is personal. Essentially not all trends are to be followed! It's not everything you see on the runway, in magazines and on TV you cop.
Margiela has since explained that bags on the models heads was a styling choice and not a new fashion trend to be explored! So there... !
