Eclectic 21 hosted it’s annual Mother’s Day gig - Yeye Cabaret 2015 at the Havilah House Of Events on 15 March, 2015 (Mothering Sunday).
This year’s theme was “A Picture Paints A Thousand Words” as it was a collaboration between two creatives - A Poet and a Photo artist i.e Ayo Ogundipe a.k.a. Dipe of Eclectic 21 and Debayo of Twelve05 photography. The event was well attended with eminent personalities including, First Lady of Lagos State, Dame Abimbola Fashola, Senior Pastor, Trinity House - Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, the Rector of Yaba College of Technology (Yaba-Tech) - Dr (Mrs) Kudi Ladipo.
The cabaret officially started with the national anthem performed in two stanzas - first stanza in the classical rendition whilst the second stanza was in percussive rendition with traditional instruments of Omele-Bata, gangan, jemba, Iya-ilu which added flair to the whole rendition. Dipe and Naomi Mac performed a duet - Encore (Iya Ni Wura) which brought the occasion to a climax with the presentation of bouquet and plaques to the First Lady of Lagos State and the Rector of Yaba-Tech respectively.
While Ayomide Okunsanya played a skillful rendition of “My Mother” with his violin as a solo performance, Fisayo Olanrewaju a.k.a pHisayo was on hand to serenade the audience with panache, reciting five of the cabaret poems at intervals. At the start of each of the five poetry reading, was the unveiling of a portrait on display. Each portrait was themed and was propped (on easels) next to the transcript of the recited poem as these images were the inspiration for the poems.
There were five portraits in all representing five different families (and their stories), hence five poetry readings. These portraits was taken specifically for the occasion, giving a very artistic slant to the whole cabaret. One of the more memorable moments of the evening was a performance by Chude Jideonwo of RED media, when he sang along to Asa’s “So Beautiful” which he dedicated to his mum who was also present at the event.
After which, he presented her with a bouquet. Enplug Africa was also on ground to provide technical support in the aspect of live social media feed displayed on the screen on stage, with the hashtags #YeyeCabaret201#APicturePaintsAThousandWords
