GE created the Garages program in 2012 to reinvigorate America’s interest in invention, innovation, and manufacturing. In 2014, Garages went global with three weeks of workshops amidst a fully equipped fab lab in Lagos, Nigeria, at GE’s regional headquarters.
On October 27th, 2014, GE expanded on past successes by evolving the program into six weeks dedicated to accelerating the impact of Nigeria’s most promising entrepreneurs. Working with a variety of world-class instructors, investors, technical experts and partners, participants will build a culture of collaboration and innovation and bring their wildest ideas to life.
By launching the Garages program, GE is working to help build a skilled workforce and drive entrepreneurial development in the region. The training facility is based in Lagos, Nigeria and supports a hands-on skills training program focused on growing the Power Generation service sector.
The Lagos Garage is focused on training the community on new manufacturing and production technology. By attending free classes and workshops, visitors will work with technical experts, learn more about advanced manufacturing technology and processes, they will also hear from curated speakers and panels that help bring their skills to life. Entrepreneurs also have the opportunity to learn more about business planning for their start-ups.
