Airtel, UAC Partner to feed 5000 underprivileged Nigerians

As part of the programme, Airtel and Mr. Biggs will spread love, joy and happiness of the season to communities in Nigeria by spending quality time and providing wholesome meals supplied by Mr. Biggs to over 5000 less privileged people.

The initiative kicked off Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at the Rowe Park, Yaba, Lagos, with the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Airtel, Segun Ogunsanya, leading his colleagues to feed hundreds of people that stormed the venue. The excited crowd poured encomiums on Airtel, thanking the telco for the food and for also doling out different prizes including airtime, smartphones and cash gifts just as many described the initiative as a perfect, early Christmas present.

Speaking during the event, the Airtel CEO noted that the Christmas season is not just a time for jolly and celebration but also an occasion for sharing and giving, stating that Airtel, in celebration of Christmas, is committed to spreading love, joy, and happiness across the communities where it operates

“Indeed, Airtel is passionate about uplifting and empowering Nigerians and we shall continue to create and support platforms that will make lives better for telecoms consumers.

“My colleagues in the North, South and West of Nigeria will also be hosting this same party, marking the theme of this campaign, ,” he said. The Airtel Five Days of Love train will hit Enugu tomorrow, targeting over 1,000 1000 beneficiaries at the Local Government Headquarters, Igbo-Eze South, Enugu State.

On Thursday, 15 December, 1000 people in Ibadan, Oyo State will receive the free meals at Ojo Barracks, Ibadan and on Friday 16 December, campaign will reach additional 1000 beneficiaries in the Federal Capital territory (FCT), Abuja at the Catholic Church Field, Old Karimu, Abuja.

The CSR initiative is part of Airtel’s Employee Volunteer Scheme (EVS), a platform created to assist underprivileged people.

It would be recalled that last year, the Five Days of Love initiative reached thousands across Nigeria including children in orphanages, people in hospitals and others with disabilities.
