If i’m right [and you have], the you must be wondering why you still feel like you can’t seem to get everything you need to get done done. That’s because most of what you have read or learned about managing time do not work.
You see, to manage your time properly, you first need to understand what time itself is. A dictionary definition goes: “the point or period at which things occur.” Basically, when stuff happens.
As an entrepreneur, you may have to deal with constant interruptions and get pulled in another direction all the time. While you can’t entirely avoid interruptions, you can have a say in how much time you spend on them versus how much time you spend on stuff that take you that next level of success you are aiming for.
Here are three proven techniques that work if you want to become the master of your own time:
- For a set period of time (one week, for example) carry a schedule and record all your thoughts, activities and conversations. This will help you understand your patterns, how much you can get done in a day, and where your time is going. You will see how much time you spend on productive or unproductive stuff so you can tweak and adjust to get the right fit.
- Plan to spend at least half (50%) of your time on thoughts, activities and conversations that produce a majority of the kind of results you want.
- Plan your day everyday before you start it. Take 30 minutes to plan your day and don’t start the day until you finish your time plan. The most important part of your day, time-wise, is the time you schedule to schedule your day.
Time is everyone’s most precious and important resource and it is also the easiest resource to waste. Take control of your time today.
