Here are four business lessons you can learn from the life and times of everyone’s favorite woman super hero:

  • Rebrand yourself as much as needed: Since 1942 the Wonder Woman character, and her civilian identity Diana Prince, has been reinvented and rebranded over and over and over. For example, her name was changed from Suprema to Wonder Woman and she was originally from Paradise Island before that was changed to Themyscira. Also, in the 1960s when she lost her powers, she became a babysitter, fashion model, movie star, astronaut, and businesswoman. Almost everything about Wonder Woman has been tinkered or modified at some point. Similarly, you can rebrand yourself and your business as needed and when needed. When you realize you made a mistake or that market tastes have changed, don’t be afraid to rebrand and remain flexible enough to adapt to changing times.

  • Wield the power of empathy: Wonder Woman can detect other people’s emotions aka she wield the power of empathy. That’s also why she is such an important member of the Justice League. Empathy may just be the most important skill you need to possess as an entrepreneur. When you can put yourself in others’ shoes, you have a better understanding of how to solve their problems and proffer genuine solutions. That is what entrepreneurship is all about: solving problems.

  • Even when the odds are against you, be fearless: Wonder Woman has gone into battle with all kinds of monsters, bad guys and even allies like Superman. Even when it looks like the odds are against her, she goes against those foes for the good of humanity. That doesn’t mean she just goes in blind and starts smashing stuff (unlike the Hulk). She’s a brilliant strategist. The odds are usually always stacked against entrepreneurs — especially women entrepreneurs — so be sure to always test the market, gauge the competition, and have your game together before going into battle.

  • Turn your weakness into strength: One of Wonder Woman’s trademarks is her indestructible, bullet-deflecting bracelets. They are awesome in combat and all that but they have much darker origins. The Amazons were initially forced to wear the bracelets after being captured and enslaved by Hercules. But even after regaining their independence, the Amazons chose to wear the bracelets proudly as a symbol of past oppression they have overcome. As an entrepreneur, you will face tough times like your business going through a rough patch or rejection from investors. Instead of letting those failures hold you back, learn from them and turn them into strengths.
