Jinmi Abduls, 19, a Nigerian singer, songwriter and producer comes off as one who finds it easy to express himself through music, owning his unique voice and using it as a romantic tool to charm the ladies as seen in earlier singles like ‘Tinuke Eko’ and the more R&B centred ‘Long distance’.
The young artist does not stray too far away from relationship talk in his debut "Jinmi Of Lagos (JOLAG)" EP where love plays a central theme around the songs, which he delivers with relatable stories, immersing the listeners on a personal level.
Having released a number of singles and cover songs in 2016, Jinmi Abduls assembles a 7-track EP in “Jinmi Of Lagos (JOLAG), where he talks on appreciation of life, love and relationships on different levels.
He starts off the project with a thankful song sampling the veteran Paul Play’s ‘Mo wa dupe’, his crush for Linda Ikeji is also thrown in the rather playful ‘Linda Highlife’ track.
Jinmi samples Shaggy’s ‘Wasn’t me’ beautifully in ‘Why’ and jumps on the pop culture trend wagon that discusses how man treat women and vice versa in the upbeat ‘Scum’ featuring DMW’s finest Mayorkun.
Producers including Jinmi Abduls on the project made the project quite well rounded with their touches and ears for good sound.
Young love, free-spiritedness and light-hearted lyrics embody “Jinmi of Lagos” EP.
It’s a decent debut effort from the budding singer who is steady gaining a fan base of like-minded young folks. Jinmi obviously had fun while making this project, breathing his emotions one each song one after the other. There is room for the creative Jinmi to do more.
