Singer's '1989' album goes double platinum in the UK

The pop singer's fifth studio album has now sold over 600,000 copies in the country since it was first released in October 2014.

Taylor Swift’s '1989' album has officially gone double platinum in the United Kingdom.The pop singer's fifth studio album has now sold over 600,000 copies in the country since it was first released in October 2014. ‘1989’ had earlier went double platinum within the first three weeks of its release in the US and album sales currently stand at over 4.6 million stateside.

Swift caused controversy at the time when she pulled the album and all her material off Spotify just days after its release.She justified her decision by arguing that the bosses of the streaming site, which allows users to listen to millions of songs for free, aren't compensating artists and songwriters properly.Swift has since allowed some of her music to be streamed via's Jay-Z's subscription based music service Tidal.
